'F' defensive performance, franchise-low in points lead Knight Hawks to first loss

After a thrilling comeback victory in their season opener, the Vegas Knight Hawks posted a franchise-low 19 points in a loss to the Jacksonville Sharks.

The Knight Hawks suffered this loss on the road against the Sharks, 36-19, Sunday, April 6 in Florida.

The Knight Hawks failed to score in the second half, an unfamiliar performance from an offense that ranked top five a season ago.

When asked about the offensive performance head coach Mike Davis said the offense just “couldn’t get any[thing] going.”

“We just didn’t execute,” Davis said. “Not to put blame on anybody but it’s the whole offense.”

There were also significant struggles on the defensive side of the ball as well. The Knight Hawks gave up 41 points a week ago on the road against the San Diego Strike Force.

Those same defensive woes followed the team into this week as it gave up 36 more points.

When Davis was asked what grade he would give the defensive after a slight improvement in week two, he replied “an F, it was terrible.”

“We’re a pretty physical team,” he said. “And we let them do what they wanted to and that’s not Knight Hawks football.”

The Knight Hawks are now 1-1 in the early part of the season as they get set to take on San Diego for the second time this season. This game will take place from Lee’s Family Forum as the Knight Hawks host their home opener.

There will be an expectation of the team to perform at a higher level heading into the next contest, as Davis said he just wants to see the team “bounce back”.

“[I want to see the guys] rally around each other,” Davis said. “They didn’t quit tonight. They played until the last horn but we just got to get better, you don’t win the championship in week two. You learn from what you’re doing in week two, to help win a championship in week 20.”
