Seattle scored four of the last five goals of the game to beat Vegas.

Fresh off its first road win of the season, the Golden Knights lost to the Kraken, 4-3, in overtime Friday, Nov. 8 from Climate Pledge Arena. It’s only the second loss of the season for the VGK against a division rival in seven tries as Seattle ended a four-game losing streak

“Tonight, I just felt there was certainly an opportunity to get all four [points],” head coach Bruce Cassidy said. “And we let that get away.”

During the two-game road trip, Vegas picked up three of four points away from home to move to 9-3-2 on the year with 20 points to show for it. It keeps the team atop the Pacific division, just above the Los Angeles Kings (8-4-3) with 19 points.

Even with that overall record, the Knights are 1-3-2 on the road this year.

“Well, we wanted four [points],” Cassidy said. “Three is pretty good. If you look at the big picture, that part is good.”

With the two-game road trip now a thing of the past, Vegas will return home for a pit-stop home game from The Fortress. The team will host Carolina Monday, Nov. 11 for a Veteran’s Day matchup from the T-Mobile Arena.

First faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

”There’s always things to clean up,” forward Tanner Pearson said. “Maybe tonight we were lucky to get away with a point.”

The Golden Knights lost in overtime for the second time in three attempts this season. Their loss comes less than a week from the team’s first overtime win of the year.

Seattle lit the lamp for the game-winning goal in breakaway fashion. It was the team’s second breakaway score of the night.

“We had some unforced errors from the backend tonight,” Cassidy said. “Very uncharacteristic of them.”

Kraken forward Brandon Tanev scored on the first breakaway in the game’s opening period. That would be the first of his eventual two goals on the night.

Early in the third period, Seattle snagged the lead for the first time behind its third straight goal of the game.

VGK goalie Adin Hill recorded 28 saves in the loss for a final save percentage of .875. He is now 6-2-1 on the year following Friday’s outcome.

”I think we put ourselves in bad situations many times today,” center Nicolas Roy said. “[Hill] played a really good game. I think if it wasn’t for [him] it would be a different score for sure.”

Vegas fell flat after a fast start beginning with a goal from left-wing Pavel Dorofeyev on the team’s first power play chance. He’s got eight goals on the year with four coming on the power play.

Entering the game as the third-best team on the power play, the VGK has now recorded power play goals in 10 of the 14 games played. It would fail to convert on its final three power play chances of the game.

“I don’t think our overall play in the first dictated the score in the first,” Cassidy said. “We had a 5-on-3 too right? So the 5-on-5 stuff we needed to be cleaner.”

Roy tallied two points in the first period by assisting on that opening goal ahead of scoring a goal of his own soon after. He was moved to the first line in the absence of captain Mark Stone, who missed the game with a lower body injury. He is listed as day-to-day.

Fellow center Jack Eichel assisted on both of the first two Vegas goals of the night for his seventh multi-point game of the season. The pair of Roy and Eichel combined for four points in just over 10 and a half minutes on ice in the first period.

”I don’t think we were that good in the first tonight to be honest with you,” Cassidy said. “We scored two goals [but] we gave up numerous chances by not managing the puck.”

Eichel finished with three points, all on assists for a season total of 18 this year.

The final Golden Knights goal of the night came off the stick of defenseman Alex Pietrangelo with 82 seconds left in regulation. That goal tied the game at three apiece ahead of overtime.

”That part’s good,” Cassidy said. “I thought we did a lot of things well in the third to try and get back in the game. And then we got the goal.”
