Ignite two-step their way to second straight double-digit loss

For the second time in as many nights, the NBA G League Ignite found themselves on the losing end of a road game. Saturday night’s loss came at the hands of the Texas Legends by a final score of 107-89.

This is also the second straight game where the Ignite have failed to reach 90 or more points in a game. Friday night’s game against Austin was a season-low in points scored for the Ignite in a game with 82 points.

After Saturday’s loss, the G-League Ignite now sit in 10th place of the Western Conference Standings. The team is three games out of 6th place in the standings. The top six teams from each conference make the postseason for the G-League.

The Ignite have the next 12 days off before their next game which is set to take place Feb. 23 at the Landers Center as the Ignite square off with the Memphis Hustle for a back-to-back in Southaven, MS.

Tip-off in that one is set for 5 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+ nationwide.

Guard Mojave King led the way for the Ignite with a career-high 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field to go along with seven rebounds and two assists. Forward Leonard Miller recorded his third straight double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds while dishing out four assists.

Other contributors for the Ignite included guard Cameron Young who had 19 points and seven rebounds along with fellow guard London Johnson who finished with 15 points and four assists.

On the Legends side, guard Grant Riller was the game’s leading scorer with 31 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field. Center James Banks III had 18 points and 12 rebounds while guard Tyler Dorsey chipped in 17 points in the win for the Legends.

The fourth quarter was the deciding quarter in determining the outcome of this one. The Ignite continued to play with a shorter rotation than normal which was also the case in Friday’s loss against Austin.

In the fourth, Texas used a 17-3 run to take what was a six-point advantage coming into the final 10 minutes of play and extend the lead out to 20 points to put away the visitors for good.

The Ignite kept the game close through the first three quarters as they did not trail by more than eight points in that three-quarter span while also holding as much as a 10-point lead during that same time span.

This is the fourth time in five games that the Ignite have lost a game by ten or more points.

The Ignite played a total of eight players during this game with the team having a total of seven players listed as inactive for this one. Texas only had two players inactive and were able to play ten guys total.

The Legends won the turnover battle as they forced the Ignite into 18 turnovers while only committing eight turnovers themselves. Although the Ignite were short-handed in comparison to the Legends, the visitors were still able to grab 52 rebounds compared to the 47 rebounds collected by Texas.
