Coming off of a bye week, the Vegas Knight Hawks suffer their second consecutive loss, this time to the Northern Arizona Wranglers after a thrilling, 58 - 52, shootout.
Coming into this week’s game the Knight Hawks decided to start quarterback Jorge Reyna over regular starter Ja’Rome Johnson who was pulled from the team’s loss against Tucson two weeks ago.
Reyna had a rough start to the game, throwing an interception on the very first play of the game
Soon after he made up for the costly mistake on the very next drive as he completed a 38 yard touchdown pass to receiver Caleb Holley. Kicker Kevin Macias would go on to miss the PAT, marking the first of three missed point-afters.
Reyna accounted for 244 total yards with five touchdowns and an interception in his first start. He was also bolstered by the return of receiver Quentin Randolph who scored a rushing touchdown from three yards out after returning from injury.
Randolph would close his night with 56 all-purpose yards on five touches and two touchdowns.
As Vegas was working to find itself again on the offensive end, the team just couldn’t stop the forward momentum of Northern Arizona.
The Wranglers rushed for five touchdowns on the night versus just two touchdown passes. They also played a perfect brand of football as they failed to commit a turnover.
Quarterback Joshua Jones scrambled for 10-yard, six-yard and four-yard touchdowns. That four-run score came with just 14 seconds left in regulation.
Northern Arizona’s came-turning touchdown came about 40 seconds after a game-tying touchdown by Vegas followed by a rogue by the aforementioned Macias.
The game featured three ties, all of which came in the second half.
Vegas will look to end the two-game losing streak Saturday, June 8 when the team travels to take on Sioux Falls. That contest is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Next week’s contest will kick off a two-game road trip for the Knight Hawks, where the team holds a 3-1 record this season.
